Capitalism is Wonderful! "How selfish soever man may be supposed, there are evidently some principles in his nature, which interest him in the fortune of others, and render their happiness necessary to him, though he derives nothing from it, except the pleasure of seeing it.” -Adam Smith, The Theory of Moral Sentiments

Jeremy Corbyn hails Fidel Castro as a ‘champion of social justice’
If Jeremy Corbyn thinks Castro was Champion of social justice perhaps we should adopt Castro's policies ourselves so we can all experience the joy of living in a one-party socialist dictatorship where all land, housing and industry is owned by the state.
What social improvements might we expect from such a transformation?
If we take Cuba as our guide, as children from the age of six we will receive compulsory indoctrination in the principles of revolutionary socialism and conscription to the Youth Labour Army at the age of seventeen. As adults, our entire lives will be subservient to the whims of our political superiors, where the interests of the Communist Party determine both the standard and purpose of daily life.
Private citizens will be prohibited from buying computers or accessing the Internet, private bookshops and publishers will be closed, and free speech will be deemed a counter-revolutionary activity likely to bring dissenters before a revolutionary tribunal with the power to inflict the death penalty.
Habeas corpus, the right to trial by jury, the right of assembly, the right of appeal, due process, presumption of innocence, and other 'arcane' traditions of British Law will be abolished and, in their stead, torture, self-incrimination, hearsay testimony, detention without trial, political courts, electricity blackouts and food shortages will be de rigueur.
We shall have a socialised health system, even more socialised than it is today, and medical doctors as plentiful and imaginary as Soviet tractors and refrigerators.
Sex tourism and the trafficking of prostitutes no doubt will escalate to the astronomical levels for which Cuba is notorious and for the majority of our people the only escape from the poverty and drudgery of a command economy and forced labour will be hazardous, black-market transactions conducted under the threat of arbitrary arrest by the secret police.
Nevertheless, judged by the spurious 'values' of duty, self-sacrifice and collectivism we will have created one of the most altruistic nations on Earth.
Judged by the values of reason, individualism and self-interest however, every hour would be a living hell.
Little wonder that over the years, literally thousands of ordinary Cubans have taken to the high seas in little more than homemade rafts in desperate and often forlorn attempts to reach the free shores of The United States of America.
Notwithstanding Corbyn's assertions to the contrary, that is Castro's legacy, indeed it is the legacy of socialism everywhere: it is a legacy of tyranny, slavery and death.
