Letter to an MP on the eve of a parliamentary vote on Brexit.

Sir,

I am not your servant and I have not the slightest interest in your economic forecasts nor the opinions of sundry businessmen.

You may take it for granted that we harbour irreconcilable differences on almost all matters of economic theory and political reality.

What I wish to know is whether you place your own conceits and prejudices above the stated will of the people?

This is a question of fundamental significance and not one to be fobbed off through reference to the opinions of so-called "experts" who imagine themselves the custodians of my well-being.

Conscience, you may contend, allows you the liberty to oppose a so-called "No Deal" Brexit on the grounds of practicality, but by what manner of argument was Brexit ever predicated on a deal ? By what manner of argument would any individual seek to justify bargaining with his nation's fundamental sovereignty?

The simple truth is: conscience cannot be separated from its purpose anymore than purpose can be separated from its end.

When you affirmed your Oath of Allegiance To Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Her laws no one forced you. You affirmed an oath to abide by the will of the people and you made that choice of your own free will. Do you now presume to abandon your solemn promise and break your word of honour in the name of "conscience?"

No argument could be more specious than one that seeks to place conscience at odds with honour for each is necessary to the other.

Conscience in the service of honour is a virtue; conscience in the absence of honour is mere caprice.

So permit me, Sir, to put this in a manner that leaves absolutely no room for dissemblance or obfuscation.

Will you uphold your solemn oath to fulfill your duty as my parliamentary representative and honour the outcome of the EU Referendum, or will you betray me and the 17 million others who voted to leave the EU?

Yours etc.,
